The Lean Steel tensegrities are based on the half-peg connector concept used in the older STEAM Gem build system, with a twist. Because Lean Steel supports curved struts, a means of keeping each strut's bow pointing in the desired direction is required. To maintain the bow direction both the strut tips and half pegs are slightly oval rather than round, so the strut won’t twist once the sculpture is assembled. The result is a clean, finished look with no distracting connection hardware visible.
